SZA Schilling, Zutt & Anschütz advises Klangio on first GEMA licence agreement for AI training data
SZA Schilling, Zutt & Anschütz advised Klangio GmbH on the negotiation and conclusion of a licence agreement with GEMA regarding the use of music data for training AI applications.
Klangio GmbH, headquartered in Karlsruhe, develops AI-based solutions for automatic music transcription and is one of the pioneers in the field of Artificial Auditory Intelligence.
With this agreement, Klangio becomes the first user of the new “PLAI by GEMA” licensing offering. Developed specifically for training AI applications, this offering is considered the first of its kind in Europe. It combines music data incl. sound files and metadata with the necessary usage rights in both the underlying musical works and the master recordings, thereby creating a legally compliant foundation for training AI systems. The offering is aimed at providers of AI music tools for assisting music creators through the production process whose output does not compete with the works used for AI training purposes.
