SZA Schilling, Zutt & Anschütz appoints three new partners and two new counsel

Effective from 1 January 2024, Jan Friedrichson, Stefan Mendelin and Dr. Andreas Herr will become new partners at SZA Schilling, Zutt & Anschütz. Katja Schmitt and Dr. Simon Apel have been promoted as counsel.

SZA Schilling, Zutt & Anschütz has appointed Jan Friedrichson, Stefan Mendelin and Dr. Andreas Herr, three lawyers from its own ranks, as partners as of 1 January 2024 and thereby strengthens the core areas of corporate law and M&A at the Mannheim office as well as banking and finance law in Frankfurt. The business law firm will thus have 35 partners in the future. In addition, Katja Schmitt (insolvency law) and Dr. Simon Apel (intellectual property law) have been promoted as counsel, both of whom are also based at the Mannheim office.

Jan Friedrichson
(Mannheim) advises national and international clients in the areas of M&A and corporate law. He specializes in national and cross-border transactions and restructurings of listed and mid-sized companies as well as in advice at the interface between M&A, corporate law and corporate finance in the areas of private equity and venture capital. His practice also comprises advising companies, their boards and shareholders in corporate and capital markets law matters.

Stefan Mendelin
(Mannheim) provides advice to national and international clients in the areas of corporate law (including dispute resolution), compliance and M&A/joint ventures. A particular focus of his corporate law practice is advising companies and corporate bodies on corporate governance and directors' and officers' liability issues as well as family-owned companies and shareholders on all aspects of their business, including the resolution of inner-corporate conflicts.

Dr. Andreas Herr
(Frankfurt) advises German and foreign clients in the areas of banking and finance law. He focuses on advising borrowers, banks and private lenders on syndicated loans, acquisition and project financing as well as alternative financing models. In addition, he regularly advises on regulatory issues and represents clients in proceedings before the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority.

Katja Schmitt
(Mannheim) is active in insolvency and restructuring law and insolvency administration. The focus of her work is on advising and assisting companies and their governing bodies in crisis situations. She specializes in insolvency proceedings in self-administration as well as the preparation and implementation of complex insolvency plans. Furthermore, she regularly accompanies M&A transactions in crisis and special situations.

Dr. Simon Apel
(Mannheim) provides comprehensive advice on intellectual property law (including trade secrets law), IT law, as well as data and data protection law. One focus of his practice is the drafting and negotiation of license agreements, development agreements and supply agreements. In addition, he regularly advises start-ups in all phases of their business development and accompanies M&A transactions related to the aforementioned areas of law.
